Five Baby Shower Games and Activities
In recent months I have been to several baby showers (including my own) all have been wonderfully organised by various family members and friends.
One of the fun parts of a baby shower is the games and activities you do so I thought I'd give you some insight into ones that I've particularly enjoyed:
1) Guess the baby poop: I've seen a couple of variations of this. At my baby shower my friends mixed together several store cupboard ingredients (mustard, raisins etc) and you had to guess all the ingredients by sight, smell and if you was brave enough taste!!
At the baby shower yesterday there was six different melted chocolate bars in six numbered nappies and you had to guess what chocolate bars they were!!
2) Guess the baby food: baby food comes in all sorts of posh flavours these days. At my baby shower my friends heated up several flavours of baby food and we had to try and guess the flavours!
3) Draw the mum-to-be's baby: this ones really funny. Give each guest five minutes to draw what they think the baby will look like. Give them all to the mum-to-be to judge. These could all be collected up afterwards and put into a book for the mum-to-be to keep!
4) A good old fashioned quiz: Appeals to my competitive nature! Could be done individually or pub quiz style in small groups! Rounds could include nursery rhyme questions, celebrity baby names, questions about the mum-to-bes pregnancy.
5) Decorate bibs and baby vests: I loved doing this one! It really appealed to my creative side! Buy some plain bibs and vests, along with some fabric pens and let the guests decorate these items for the new baby.
One nice idea is to buy vests in a range of sizes (0-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9-12) and allow each guest to decorate them with 'Month 1, Month 2 etc) so the mum to be can photograph her baby each month and document the baby's growth!
I hope these ideas inspire you if you're organising a babyshower yourself!
What fun games have you played at a baby shower?! Please leave a comment below!

REVIEW and COMPETITION: @fibregeek Handmade Clothes
I'm a huge fan of handmade clothes. I'm slowly teaching myself to knit and wish that I was talented enough to make clothes for myself and Xander. I was utterly delighted when Mandy from Fibregeek offered to create some handmade items for my son, Xander and his cousin Ellie (who is 4 weeks older than Xander)
Mandy offered to make Xander a pair of dungerees. I gave her free reign when it came to fabric she used and she selected a fun red dinosaur corduroy (which I loved!)
They are beautifully lined, with a light blue cotton which is soft on baby's skin and is well coordinated with the red fabric. Mandy selected these fun green buttons to fasten up the dungerees!
Xander wore these dungerees to a family party and everyone commented on how fabulous they were. Many people asked where I got them from and when I announced they were handmade they were all very impressed!! I think you'll agree he looks super cute in them!
Mandy sent a pinafore dress for Ellie. I think you'll agree the fabric used is absolutely gorgeous! Ellie's mum Kirsty loved the traditional design of this dress. Again Mandy lined the dress beautifully and as a result this dress could be worn without a vest in warm weather but would look equally beautiful with a vest and tights. Look how gorgeous Ellie is in her beautiful dress!
Please follow Mandy on twitter (@fibregeek) and check out her price list. I was surprised to discover her handmade items are comparable to high street clothing prices. Here's some prices for items up to the age of 2:
Dungerees £15
Fleece hoodie £12
Fleece onsie £16
Cape £18
Pinafore £12
Tea dress £15
Party frock £18
Trousers £10
Box slipper (fleece) £5
Knitted/crochet slipper £7
Fleece hat +mittens £6
Knit/crochet hat +mittens £8
Crochet frock coat £25
Knit/crochet cardi £12
(Other items can be made on request)
Mandy is incredibly talented and if you have an idea of what you would like she will most likely be able to create something special! Her creations could make a perfect Christmas gift!!

REVIEW and COMPETITION: Smash Books!
Today's post is especially for all you busy crafty mummy's out there who are looking for a way to journal your pregnancy/ baby's early years but just don't have the time! Have you heard of smash books?
I'd love to have the time to sit down and make a pretty, neat, perfect scrapbook of Xander but quite simply I do not have the time!! In between feeding, nappy changes, washing etc I'm lucky to even look at my craft kit let alone get it all out and have a play.. That's the beauty of smash booking. It's quick, easy and the end product still looks amazing!
Smashbooks are bound journals that have beautiful themed backing papers. They come with a journal pen which has a glue stick on the end which means you can quickly glue down momentos and write about them with ease. It also means you don't need a huge craft stash out. Just your smashbook and a few pics to create your page!!
There are lots of different designs including one specifically made to be a baby journal!
Here's a couple of pages from Xanders smashbook:
People use smashbooks for all sorts of things: travel journals, to keep momentos of days out, wedding planner/ journal. To be honest you can just about smash anything!!
If you'd like to purchase your own smashbook or other crafty products why not visit the online craft shop Crafty Boots where you can purchase everything you need to start smashing!! Also if you're a crafty person why not visit the Crafty Boots Challenge page where you can take part in a fortnightly craft challenge!!

DIY Baby Announcement Cards
You may be aware (if you are a follower of my other blog: Crafty Thinker) that i'm a Stampin' Up demonstrator. Stampin' Up! is a catalogue based craft company which sells stampsets, punches, ribbons, card, beautiful scrapbook papers and other craft accessories. I love being a demonstrator and showing people how to create their own handmade cards, scrapbook pages, gift boxes etc.
Today i'd like to share with you an idea on how to make your own baby announcement cards:
These cards were super quick to make (which was just as well as i had to make quite a lot!!) and you will notice that i slightly altered the designs to make creating such large quantities more bearable!!
I started with 'Bashful Blue' cardbases (i managed to make 3 cards from every piece of A4 card) and embossed them using the 'Big Shot' and the 'Stripes Embossing Folder' to create texture and then placed three 'Basic Pearls' in the bottom corner of each card to add some bling!!
I then stamped the super cute baby feet from the 'Baby Prints' stampset onto some 'Whisper White' card using 'Bashful Blue' ink and then stamped the 'it's a boy' over the feet (also from the 'Baby Prints' stampset) using 'Pacific Point' ink and then ran it through the 'Big Shot' using a die from the 'Labels Collection Framelits Dies', using 'Dimensionals' to attach the image to the cardbase. Here's a close-up:
I finished these cards off by stamping the announcement image from the 'Little Additions' stampset using 'Pacific Point' ink:
I loved making these cards and sent them out to all our friends and family to announce the arrival of Xander.
If you're expecting your own little arrival why not consider making your own announcements. Alternatively why not make a batch of these to give as a practical baby shower/ new baby gift? - check out the catalogue for suitable materials and feel free to email me for advice and orders: amyjtidd@gmail.com

Baby Shower Gift Idea: Baby Sock Bouquet
Baby showers used to be an American phenomenon but they've recently become a standard part of the pregnancy experience in the UK. The first baby shower I actually went to was my own just a couple of months ago. My sister and two of my best friends hosted a wonderful day with lots of laughs and CAKE!
Now it seems all my friends are expecting and this of course means lots of baby showers in the upcoming months!! In fact I went to I've just this weekend been.
One of the customs of a baby shower is that you bring a gift for the mum to be and baby and being crafty I was keen to make a gift. I'd seen a few photos on twitter of baby sock bouquets and decided to give making one a go!
The mother to be opted not to find out the sex of the baby so I needed to make it neutral and opted to use mainly white socks and a pair of yellow and a pair of orange socks for a splash of colour (neutral baby socks were near on impossible to find and eventually found them in H&M kids)
I googled 'baby sock bouquets' and found this fab tutorial and after several attempts this is the final product!
The bouquet got a great response at the baby shower and was one of the most unique gifts there! I'd love to know what you think!
Are you going to a baby shower soon? Do you know someone who had just had a baby? Why not get crafty and make one of these. All you need is 6 pairs of baby socks, some floristry wire and green floristry tape, some foliage (which could be picked from your garden) and something to wrap the bouquet in or a vase!!
If i have inspires you to have a go at making one please tweet me a pic: @craftythinker
